Help and Advice

What to do if you are in housing crisis

If you fear you’re about to become homeless, there are organisations who can give advice and support:

  • Your first stop should be your local council’s housing department – you may be eligible for immediate housing. Please find links to their websites below.
  • Citizen’s Advice Bureau
  • Shelter Line – Shelter’s free housing advice line on 0845 075 5005
  • Shelter’s website provides valuable practical information if you are sleeping rough or in housing crisis.

The council has a duty by law to assist people who claim they are homeless or who are likely to become homeless within 28 days.
