Mountain number 3 – Blorenge

by solas

Our latest Moving Mountains challenge took us to Blorenge mountain just past Blaenavon for our 3rd walk in preparation for the Fan Dance.

Our training walks have been going well so far with the Sugarloaf and Skirrid complete and now the Blorenge ticked off. With a wet and windy day forecasted, it seemed to effect the willingness of the people who wanted to go, however after a ring around to gather the training group together we managed to start the walk with 7 clients willing to brave the elements and reach the summit of the Blorenge.

Luckily the rain stayed away throughout the duration of the walk, and they all grouped well and enjoyed each others company talking and chatting to the top of the mountain.

Our next training walk will be the biggest test. Pen Y Fan on 16th of July.

This will be the first time our residents have been up Pen Y Fan before the Fan Dance challenge in July.

The challenge is a gruelling 24km non-navigational race over two sides of Pen Y Fan.

This infamous route has long been a part of SAS (Special Air Service) selection and is considered the yardstick of a candidate’s potential to ultimately pass the Special Forces Selection programme.
