My Life Changing Event
By ML
I would like to tell everyone what happened to me one very special week last month……
Well we left Saturday 29th August at 7am, it was a long a long journey and I was tired but the drive was ok. We arrived at Gosport, England, approximately 11:30am and then we boarded the ship. Our food arrived shortly afterwards. We were ok at the first glimpse of our ship and we had a look at where we would be sleeping, working and living for a week.
We then from Gosport did 14 ½ hours of sailing across to France….it was ok apart from the early mornings and lack of sleep. We arrived at France and the weather was hot hot hot! I went off for a shower and then sunbathed on the top deck of the ship. I even caught a tan
After a day in France, we went to one of the Channel Islands, Alderney. I sunbathed, had a shower and looked around the shops. We then set sail towards the Isle of Wight, where we stayed for three days. We ported at Cowes and the weather was rubbish! We then headed back to Gosport. After relaxing for a short time we then had to do the big clean up on the ship. We received certificates and then had a long journey back to Wales, thinking about our experience.
I really enjoyed my sailing adventure and I would like to do it again. The ship takes it out of your comfort zone and makes you realise what you have in life. I used my cooking skills aboard the ship and I have been told to go further and get some qualifications. I can then get back in touch with the captain and then hopefully I will have another chance to do it again, volunteering, cooking for everyone on a 1-2 week voyage. I am going to go for it and I am so pleased with my efforts. I have learnt so much and I have come out a much better young man!

I just wanted to thank the whole team, the staff who were brave enough to spend a week couped up on a sailing boat and the staff team who ensured the scheme was fully covered in their absence. It was such an amazing experience for everyone involved, it has spurred the team on to try and provide more of these life changing opportunities.
