Solas Showcase Event for Adult Learner’s Week
We pulled out all the stops in Solas for the national Adult Learners Week campaign in May!
A full week of activities and events were organised across all the schemes. These were run by staff, residents, external agencies, family and friends — all volunteering their talents to offer a huge variety of opportunities to the people we support.
Over 110 activities were on offer (more than double the number available last year!) and 130 people took part – many attending a number of activities throughout the week.
We celebrated the achievements from the week at our ‘Showcase Event’ which included an amazing Cup Cake Competition where all schemes battled to show their creativity! We took the chance to present recent certificates achieved by residents in:
• Learn Direct courses
• Catering OCNs
• CIEH Food Safety
• Budgeting OCN.
The Showcase was an opportunity to exhibit photographs from ALW activities and examples of some of the great work that was produced during the week – ‘paint & grained’ furniture, wall stencil art, homemade soaps, welsh cakes and lots more.
The campaign is an important one for us in Solas. Not only is it a celebration of ‘adult learning’ and represents everything that we are trying to do in motivating the people we support to make positive changes, it also helps us plan for the year ahead with new activities that our residents tell us they enjoyed and found useful.
This could be that important first step in trying something new and discovering hidden talents and interests.
