Over the Top!
As part of Adult Learners Week, 11 Solas residents and five staff members from across Newport’s accommodation schemes took up the challenge of walking across the top of Newport’s Transporter Bridge, of which there are only seven in the World.
The weather wasn’t fantastic but regardless, the Solas residents braved the 177ft. climb (or 54m) and walked the whole length of this colossal feat of engineering – 645ft. and back again. On top there were lots of screams and many individuals came down far paler than when they went up. In fact two staff members didn’t even make it to the top….
This was a unique experience for the people Solas support, especially as the bridge is not functional right now. We would like to thank Paul Cockeram who arranged for the bridge to be opened especially for Solas!
